What is a field margin?

The field margin is the piece of the field that is around the edge of the field often between the crop e.g. wheat and the hedge. Field margins are the spec between nature and the food crop and farmers will either allow them to grow naturally (regenerate) or will grow certain plants designed to support nature.

The margin acts as a buffer between the crop and nature preventing soil runoff, acting as a space for invertebrates, insects and small mammals.

The camomile here on our farm is an important herb, that makes a really nice tea as well. Many of these plants will naturally regenerate if you make space for them.
