 What is happening to the cost of food in the UK in 2022?

The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) has just published the figures for food inflation rates in the UK (see table below). This means that in one year, food inflation has increased from 0.3% to 12.6%.

This is having a direct impact on so many households and communities. In many other countries, food inflation over the last year has been even worse e.g. Lebanon 332%, Zimbabwe 309%, Venezuela 155%, Turkey 95%, and Sri Lanka 91%. (Source: https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/food-inflation) This compares to Switzerland where food inflation is at 1.9%.
