The FAO Food Price Index has been a focus of concern in the last nine months with the disruption of global food chains. After the rises seen at the start of 2022, in the latest report in August 2022 the Food Price Index averaged 140.9 points in July 2022. This is down 13.3 points from June 2022, which is a fourth consecutive monthly decline. The Index is still 16.4 points above its value in July 2022. This most recent decline is due to drops in prices of vegetable oils and cereals fuelled earlier in the year by food security concerns.
